The Acacia earring stands out due to its complex surface, offering a fresh perspective on earring design. Instead of the typical front and back view, this design is beautiful from multiple angles. The clasp is ingeniously incorporated into the structure, resulting in a design that is uncompromised. Achieving this required the creation of a new clasp and perfect weight balance.
Wu's design process involved wax carving, lost-wax casting, goldsmithing, stone-setting, and gold-plating. The materials used include yellow gold, titanium, Rubellite, Citrine, and Tourmaline. The finished product measures 30mm in width, 21.2mm in depth, and 32.2mm in height.
The Acacia earring also features a hidden hinge. To open the earring, one simply pulls the back part, and the hinge opens. To secure it to the ear, one pushes the back part until a "tick" sound is heard, indicating that it is completely locked.
The design project began in December 2020 and was completed in July 2021 in Shenzhen. The inspiration came from observing nature, specifically the geometric form of a seed. The main challenges faced during the design process were finding the perfect placement for the clasp and achieving visual and comfortable balance. After numerous trials and adjustments, Wu and his team successfully overcame these challenges.
The Acacia earring is a testament to Wu's fascination with nature and his ability to transform natural forms into unique pieces of jewelry. The smooth shape of the earring and the precious stones embedded within it are reminiscent of a seed sprouting from the ground, commanding attention. This design not only reflects the beauty of nature but also the beauty of jewelry itself.
As a recipient of the prestigious Silver A' Design Award, the Acacia earring is recognized for its outstanding expertise and innovation. This design, admired for its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
