Atticus Watch: A Timeless Blend of Bauhaus Design and Modern Elegance

A Mechanical Watch Designed by Ricky Fung

Inspired by 1930s Bauhaus designs, the Atticus Watch by Ricky Fung is a testament to form and simplicity. With its sleek and timeless design, this mechanical watch seamlessly blends into the modern era while exuding elegance and sophistication.

The Atticus Watch stands out with its unique features and attention to detail. The slim bezel, free of any adornments, keeps the focus on the dial, which features a clean and modern sans-serif typeface. The addition of a striking red power reserve dial adds a touch of vibrancy to the overall design, breaking away from the traditional color palette.

Unlike other watches that try to hide the thickness of the case, the Atticus embraces its height by designing the barrel to sit straight up. This bold choice adds to the watch's character and sets it apart from its counterparts. The attached crown is kept slim to maintain a minimal profile, while a knurled pattern enhances grip and functionality.

Another notable feature of the Atticus Watch is the use of 20mm wired lugs to connect the straps to the dial. This design choice separates the straps from the body, preventing any distractions from the dial and ensuring a seamless visual experience.

The realization of the Atticus Watch involves meticulous craftsmanship and the use of high-quality materials. The barrel of the case is machined from a solid block of steel and then treated with PVD to achieve the elegant rose gold color. The Japanese movement is carefully placed into the case and sealed with a rubber ring for water resistance.

Technical specifications of the Atticus Watch include a diameter of 40mm and a height of 11.7mm. The watch utilizes a Japanese automatic movement that requires no batteries and beats at a smooth 28,800bph. With a 5ATM water resistance rating and a flat sapphire crystal, the Atticus is built to withstand the demands of everyday life.

Operating the Atticus Watch is a breeze. Power can be restored through the movement of the watch or by hand winding the crown clockwise. The date and time can be easily modified by pulling the crown out and winding it clockwise.

The Atticus Watch was conceptualized in Melbourne, Australia in December 2014, with the prototype created in June 2015. After months of refinement, the watch was officially launched in December 2015. The design research behind the Atticus draws inspiration from Bauhaus-inspired industrial design and a deep understanding of horology.

Ricky Fung, the mastermind behind the Atticus Watch, faced the challenge of designing a mechanical watch that would remain relevant in the 21st century. By combining timeless design principles with modern aesthetics, Fung successfully created a watch that is both classic and contemporary.

The Atticus Watch has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2016. This award recognizes the exceptional craftsmanship, innovation, and artistic skill demonstrated by the Atticus Watch.

With its blend of Bauhaus design and modern elegance, the Atticus Watch by Ricky Fung is a true masterpiece. Its attention to detail, unique features, and timeless form make it a must-have for watch enthusiasts and design aficionados alike.
