Side: A Versatile and Ergonomic Conference Chair

After three decades of experience in the design industry, Baldanzi and Novelli have created Side as a result of their extensive knowledge of form and function. The chair's monocoque body, elastic backrest, and soft upholstery ensure exceptional comfort for extended periods of sitting.

One of the standout features of Side is its versatility. It can be easily stacked and connected, allowing for efficient storage and arrangement in various settings. Additionally, Side offers the option of a self-returning writing tablet, transforming it into a small workstation for users.

The design of Side is characterized by its attention to detail and customization options. The chair is available in a wide range of colors, with or without armrests, writing tablets, row connectors, and different leg options. This allows users to tailor the chair to their specific needs and preferences.

Side is crafted using a combination of materials. The monocoque body is made of durable plastic, while the framework consists of aluminum and other metals. This combination ensures both strength and aesthetic appeal. The ergonomic design of the chair's elastic backrest provides optimal support for the waist, relieving pressure on the body.

Side was developed as a "contract" chair, specifically designed for use in public spaces such as meeting rooms and waiting areas. Its practical tablet feature makes it a versatile seating option that can easily transform into a workstation.

The project for Side began in March 2020 in Ponsacco, Italy, and was completed in March 2021. It was presented at the 47th CIFF (China International Furniture Fair) in Guangzhou, China, in March 2021. The chair's design was driven by the need to create a contract chair with a metal supporting structure and a plastic seat-backrest. The armrests of Side provide strong support for the side tablet, adding to its functionality.

Despite the creative and technical challenges faced during the design process, Baldanzi and Novelli successfully created a chair that is not only visually appealing but also cost-effective. The goal was to offer a product that is competitively priced in international markets without compromising on quality.

Side has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Office Furniture Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges the chair's innovative features, technical excellence, and contribution to improving the quality of life.
