Geosong: A Residential Building Inspired by Nature's Power

Resonating with the Landscape of Rolling Hills

Surrounded by lush green trees and a park with a sparkling fountain, Geosong is a residential building designed by Moriyuki Ochiai Architects. Located in Kanagawa, Japan, this unique structure integrates the natural forces shaping the hills, strata-soil, and spring water found in the hilly area.

The exterior of Geosong is a stunning display of layered blue and green colored strata and faults that extend skyward. Inspired by the clear blue skies over the hilltops and the rich greenery of the neighboring park, the facade changes its expression depending on the viewer's gaze. This dynamic design invites the viewer to experience the richness of nature's power and seamlessly blends the elements of the surrounding landscape into a single flow.

The entrance hall of Geosong is a masterpiece of illumination. Polygonal recesses dot the ceiling and walls, revealing natural motifs that represent small hills, sections of sloping strata, and the freshness of spring water. The rough texture of each body of light evokes the uplifting power of the earth, while shiny metal sheets inside create the illusion of flowing water. The resulting shadows and changing patterns fill the space with the lively power and sparkle of nature.

The juxtaposition of the recesses, the waves of metal, and the glossy surfaces create dynamic or subtle changes depending on one's line of sight. This visual tapestry allows visitors to feel the diverse textures and rhythms of these expressions in abundance.

Geosong was realized using advanced construction techniques and materials. The technical specifications of the building include a site area of 990.09m², a building area of 585.60m², and a total floor area of 2361.50m².

The design team behind Geosong includes Moriyuki Ochiai Architects, led by Moriyuki Ochiai and Jun Ueda, with Amit Arunabh. The project was developed and constructed by Shinnihon Corporation, with special paint by Osamu Yamaguchi and lighting by Kayo Yokoyama of Koizumi Lighting.

Geosong is a testament to the creative and technical challenges overcome by the design team. By channeling and giving form to the natural energy embedded in the layers of intertwined strata and springs, this residential building harmoniously blends with the surrounding landscape of rolling hills.

Geosong was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design of Geosong integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
