Leapfrog Immune: A Blend of Heritage and Innovation

Mayk's Award-Winning Design for Wellness Packaging

In a crowded wellness marketplace, the design of Leapfrog Immune stands out, blending centuries-old apothecary traditions with modern scientific research. This article explores the creative journey and unique properties of this award-winning design by Mayk.

The inspiration for Leapfrog Immune's design lies in the French heritage apothecary brands. Mayk sought to infuse the legacy of age-old apothecary formulations with contemporary scientific research, resulting in a stylish, portable product. The design, color, and branding subtly remind customers of the science and medicine within, creating a connection between tradition and modernity.

The design brief required Leapfrog Immune to be distinct and vivid enough to pique curiosity in a saturated wellness marketplace while maintaining a premium look and feel. The front of the package is bold, clean, and uncluttered, with the word 'IMMUNE' capturing the customers' attention. The use of a matte finish for the box and a gloss foil for 'IMMUNE' further draws the eye. The 50/50 orange/white color split is a playful nod to traditional pill supplements, adding a touch of whimsy to the design.

Mayk used the Adobe Suite to design both the branding and packaging. The internal booklet was created using InDesign, while the packaging paper weights, finishes, and styles were tested, much like a clothing designer would choose a fabric for a new dress. Brands such as Arjowiggins, Keaykolour, and Colorplan were considered, with Colorplan's simplicity and timeless quality winning out in the end.

The design process was a collaborative journey between Mayk and Leapfrog Remedies. Over 12 months, the formulation and design of Leapfrog Immune evolved from a liquid to a gummy, and finally to a chewable tablet. Each product pivot brought fresh packaging concepts, including vintage-style amber glass bottles, PET effervescent tablet tubes, and biodegradable pouches.

The major challenge was to create a brand and packaging that felt equally comfortable on a dinner party table as it would in a woman’s bathroom cosmetics cabinet, surrounded by her premium beauty products. The final design needed to be timeless, eye-catching, tactile, and recognizable from every side. The result is a product that stands out in the wellness market, not just for its unique formulation, but also for its innovative and appealing design.

Leapfrog Immune's design was awarded Silver in the A' Packaging Design Award in 2022. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
