Voice Mask: A Wearable Device for Privacy and Convenience

The Voice Mask, created by the Kunihiko Sato Innovation Laboratory, is a unique wearable device that utilizes noise-cancelling technology to mask the user's voice. By emitting the opposite sound wave, the Voice Mask effectively mutes whatever the user says aloud while wearing it. This innovative solution addresses the problem of disturbing others and unintentional information disclosure during online meetings in public spaces.

When in use, the Voice Mask is worn around the neck and positioned to cover the user's mouth. Its foldable design makes it easy to carry around, allowing users to conveniently use it wherever they go. The device is made using plastic injection molding, ensuring durability and a sleek aesthetic.

The technical specifications of the Voice Mask are as follows: when folded, it measures W150mm x D50mm x H99mm, and when unfolded, it measures W150mm x D98mm x H205mm. These compact dimensions make it a practical and portable solution for individuals working remotely or in busy environments.

The design team, led by Kunihiko Sato, conducted extensive research and development to bring the Voice Mask to life. They collaborated with acoustic experts to verify the technical feasibility of canceling sounds that diffuse into open space. User interviews were also conducted to understand the device's potential usage scenarios and user preferences. As a result, the team revised the design to resemble a harmonica holder, ensuring both portability and fashion-conscious aesthetics.

The Voice Mask has been recognized for its innovative design and functionality. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Social Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
