Unveiling Sber's Innovative Payment Application

SberPay was conceived with a singular vision: to create a payment method that simplifies the user's life by eliminating the need to enter card details, while ensuring speed and security. The design team at Sber embarked on a comprehensive journey of market and user needs analysis, employing various design and analytic methods such as Customer Journey Mapping (CJM), unit economics study, and quantitative and qualitative research.

What sets SberPay apart is its unique combination of convenience, security, and service. Users can view their card balance before payment, ensuring transparency. The payment process is secure as all transactions are conducted through the SberBank Online App, ensuring that card data is not transferred to stores and partners. Moreover, SberPay offers the creation of a personal Internet acquiring account, making it accessible to all SberBank Online users.

The design of SberPay is rooted in the brand's core values: innovation, confidence, reliability, individual approach, mobility, and speed. The visual language of SberPay is simple and easy to understand, with the main communication based on typography and familiar digital interface elements. The design team used various graphic editors such as Figma, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop, and leveraged the capabilities of the ecosystem and a specially developed Sber API for technical development.

SberPay offers a seamless user experience, supporting one-time purchases, all payment channels, and the option for one-factor or two-factor payments. Users can also set up subscriptions for regular debiting and link unlimited cards for future payments. The design process, which began in June 2021 and concluded in early September 2021 in Moscow, was underpinned by extensive research to test the relevance of SberPay.

Despite the challenge of developing a unique style while adhering to the global guidelines of the bank, the design team successfully created a unique visual language for SberPay. The design not only complies with the bank's global guidelines but also provides a convenient user experience with cashless payments. This innovative design earned SberPay the Silver A' Mobile Technologies, Applications and Software Design Award in 2022, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
