Greenbay: A Homestay Amidst the Sea of Tea

Xi Lang's Innovative Design Blends Architecture and Nature

Greenbay, a unique homestay designed by Xi Lang, is a testament to architectural innovation and respect for nature. Inspired by undulating tea fields, the design offers a 270-degree view of the surrounding landscape, providing a unique experience for visitors. The project, located in Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, has been recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in 2022 for its innovative approach.

The design of Greenbay was inspired by the surrounding tea fields. The main body of the building resembles a floating hexagonal snowflake, with each of its three areas relating to the three axes of the snowflake. This unique design allows visitors inside the building to have a full view of the tea sea, enhancing their experience and connection with the environment.

Greenbay is not just an architectural marvel, but also a testament to sustainable design. The project is situated amidst the undulating hills and a green sea of tea, with an excellent view of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway to the north. The design narrows the distance between the building and the environment, focusing on visitors' experience while minimizing impact on nature.

The realization of Greenbay's design involved the creation of a series of high and low, wide and narrow, closed and open spatial patterns around a triangular outdoor atrium. The interior design, featuring wood, white and grey colors, creates a simple and welcoming style. The large-scale transparent style, as opposed to the traditional suburban courtyard-style, lets visitors feel as if they are in a sea of tea.

Greenbay covers over 1,700 square meters with an overall floor area of about 2,700 square meters. It consists of three main functional areas: a public area, 13 guest rooms, and logistics. Each guest room is designed to provide the best lighting and landscape view, ensuring a comfortable experience for visitors.

The design of Greenbay faced significant challenges, the biggest being to avoid damage to the original ecological environment. Despite these challenges, the project was completed in 2020 and officially opened to the public in 2021. The successful realization of Greenbay is a testament to the innovative approach of Xi Lang and his team, who have managed to create a unique blend of architecture and nature.

Greenbay's unique design and commitment to sustainability have not gone unnoticed. The project was awarded Silver in the A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2022, a prestigious recognition for top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs. This award is a testament to the outstanding expertise and innovation that went into the creation of Greenbay.
