Highlighting the Beauty of Nature and the Urgency to Protect Our Planet

ARE WE stands out from other collections with its unique focus on the beauty of nature and its incorporation of coral systems and waves into the garments. Each handmade coral structure is meticulously crafted, resulting in about 300 pieces of detailed coral attached to the garments. This attention to detail showcases the designer's commitment to highlighting the delicate beauty of marine life.

The realization of the collection involves the use of lightweight silky organza to create flowing flares and multiple layering. The layers are attached with precision and care to a soft base netting fabric. The handcrafted coral-like ornaments are a testament to the designer's innovation, transforming hardness into softness. Each ornament is meticulously hand-stitched, adding a touch of craftsmanship to the collection.

The design specifications of the collection include ready-to-wear garments made from lightweight fabrics such as silk-textured shiny fabric, gradient-colored organza, and soft netting fabric. The main silhouettes feature loose fits and layering, with handcrafted detailing adding a unique touch to each piece.

By highlighting the beauty of nature, Are We encourages individuals to reflect on their actions and take responsibility for the pollution and damage caused to the planet. The collection serves as a reminder to protect and save the planet, with the marine world as the main focus. Coral reefs, known as valuable contributors to the ecosystem, act as habitats for numerous marine organisms and play a crucial role in oxygen generation.

The project, which began in May 2021 in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, was completed in August 2021. It was presented as a fashion showcase by Raffles University students through a Facebook live event. The collection's research draws inspiration from the concept of Wabi Sabi, embracing imperfections and incompleteness to achieve a unique level of beauty.

Are We collection overcame creative and technical challenges by abstracting elements from the failed Biosphere2 experiment and developing them into coral-inspired ornaments. The result is a thought-provoking collection that stimulates new ideas and promotes the importance of preserving our natural environment.

Are We collection, with its calm and soft pastel tones, aims to awaken people's minds to the urgent need for preservation. The handcrafted coral-like ornaments, made from soft thin netting, and the layered flares add a sense of fullness and soft movement to the collection.

This thought-provoking collection has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Fashion, Apparel, and Garment Design category in 2022. This prestigious award is given to well-designed creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics.
