Easynav Infinity: A Futuristic Surgical System

Redesigning Medical Technology for Enhanced User Experience

While working in the field of medical technology, designer Shreya Paliwal recognized the importance of customer satisfaction and patient comfort. With a desire to improve the visual appeal and market competitiveness of surgical systems, Paliwal, hailing from a family of doctors, set out to redesign the Easynav Infinity.

The Easynav Infinity stands out in the market with its unique form factor, combining aesthetics with optimized manufacturing and cost-effectiveness. Unlike traditional surgical systems that rely on thermoforming and die casting, the Infinity achieves its elegant curves and form language using only sheet metal and a few bending, welding, and finishing processes.

Constructed from 2mm thick stainless steel to prevent rusting, the Infinity's design reflects the quality of the product while maintaining efficiency in manufacturing. The modified bending tools and development techniques eliminate the need for plastic components, resulting in a visually striking and environmentally friendly surgical system.

The realization of the Easynav Infinity involves laser cutting, lancing, and bending operations, followed by welding, buffing, and powder coating. This meticulous process ensures the product's durability and aesthetic appeal.

With dimensions of 457.2mm x 245.5mm x 927.2mm, the Easynav Infinity provides surgeons with a user-friendly and futuristic surgical experience. Its unique taper shape, curves along the body, and ergonomic handle allow for precise navigation and ease of use.

Designed to enhance surgical procedures, the Easynav Infinity enables preoperative planning by generating a three-dimensional model of patient scans. Surgeons can view and analyze the data, allowing for accurate navigation and improved surgical outcomes. The system is calibrated to the patient's body, providing real-time data for safe and efficient navigation.

The Easynav Infinity project began in October 2020 and underwent three iterations and testing before reaching its final version in February 2022. Throughout the design process, qualitative research and feedback from surgeons, operating theater staff, and domain experts were instrumental in shaping the product's features and functionality.

Overcoming the challenge of competing in the surgical navigation segment without relying on plastics, the Easynav Infinity sets a new standard for cost-effective solutions with its unique design and premium user experience. By utilizing sheet metal and optimizing manufacturing processes, the Infinity offers a visually appealing and environmentally conscious alternative.

The Easynav Infinity's innovative design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in the Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges the product's well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements.

With the Easynav Infinity, designer Shreya Paliwal has successfully reimagined surgical systems, combining aesthetics, functionality, and cost-effectiveness to create a truly futuristic and user-friendly experience for surgeons and patients alike.
