Apple Bear Park: A Revolution in Preschool Learning Spaces

Triostudio's Award-Winning Design Fosters Cognitive Interests in Children

Apple Bear Park, an innovative early education center designed by Triostudio, aims to create a warm and positive learning environment for preschoolers. This unique commercial space design, inspired by the need for a more engaging and unrestricted learning environment, was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022.

Triostudio's design for Apple Bear Park is a testament to their understanding of children's psychology and the need for a secure, engaging, and stimulating learning environment. The design is soft and comfortable, devoid of artificial limits, thus providing an unconstrained environment for children to learn and play. The space is primarily in burlywood, apple green, and white colors, creating a vibrant and balanced atmosphere that is conducive to learning.

The design's unique properties lie in its focus on children's diverse activities. The space division centers around these activities, and the use of contrasting colors and natural materials further enhances the space's appeal. The central circular bookcase, a notable feature, is made of Corian outside the metal frame, ensuring the unity of the form. The back panel structure is made of bfom translucent resin plates, which transmit softer light and do not deform under prolonged light heating.

Apple Bear Park covers a total floor area of 398 square meters. All the elements, from chairs to door openings, stairs, and teaching spaces, are designed from the perspective of preschoolers, keeping their behavioral needs and physical sizes in mind. The design also incorporates environmental-friendly materials, reinforcing the commitment to sustainability and children's health.

The design's interaction is another highlight. Round holes connect each space, ensuring a smooth transition through soft lines. The functional classrooms are arranged in the central activity area, with bright tunnels formed through undulating curved surfaces. The circular bookcase in the indoor activity area has staggered shelves forming multi-functional ladder platforms, connected to the “tree holes”.

The project, located in Hexi District, Nanjing, Jiangsu province, was completed within a year. The biggest challenge was to balance children’s psychology, parents’ aesthetics, and practical needs of the space. The solution was the 'PARK' design concept, which integrated the whole space into one, creating an open, free, and interactive space. Each classroom has a French window with frosted glass film that suits the height of the children, allowing parents and teachers to observe without disturbing the learning process.

Apple Bear Park, with its innovative design and commitment to fostering cognitive interests in children, is a shining example of how design can revolutionize early education. The Silver A' Design Award it received is a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation, remarkable technical characteristics, and splendid artistic skill. It is a design that truly introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
