Introducing Les Petites Choses Production (LPCP) in a Quick and Interactive Way

This newspaper design is not your typical one-off consumable. It consists of two posters folded in different ways, revealing at least six different views. The interactive folding allows readers to actively participate in the art and experience LPCP from new perspectives. By transforming the way readers engage with the content, this design adds value to those who want to collect and cherish it.

Yen Lin Shen, the mastermind behind this unique design, drew inspiration from LPCP's history, spiritual concepts, activities, and past performances. The newspaper incorporates symbols with different symbolic meanings, inviting readers to embark on a journey of discovery and understanding. Through this design, the audience can systematically and joyfully explore the world of this contemporary dance group.

The realization of this design required careful consideration of technical specifications. The use of crystal dots instead of small dots of varying sizes ensured optimal readability and avoided the generation of optical illusions. The prints were made on ivory paper with a smooth feel, and two unique fluorescent colors were added to enhance visual richness and saturation. The knife mold turn technique transformed the single poster into a booklet and a wrapped envelope, adding intrigue to the newspaper's structure.

One of the design's standout features is its ability to evoke emotion and create connections. The envelope, when folded, conceals a fluorescent pink sticker among numerous dots on the poster. The sticker's position varies with each folding, integrating it into the picture and expressing the feeling of "NOW" that LPCP wants to emphasize. The back of the outer poster showcases a rectangular plaid stage, simulating the same pattern used in a dance competition. This design choice transports readers to the original scene of "Monday School," where a group of people dances in various forms.

Unfolding the newspaper reveals a booklet on the inner front that can be transformed into a poster. This booklet chronicles important events of the dance troupe, with thin slanted dots representing the group dancers scattered across the pages. This design not only allows readers to understand LPCP's journey but also encourages them to find the figures of dancers on every page, fostering a sense of connection and appreciation.

The LPCP 5th Anniversary newspaper design was a result of extensive research and collaboration. Yen Lin Shen consulted with a mathematician to calculate the unique layout required to wrap the two posters together. Countless tests were conducted with the printing house to achieve the perfect folding and visual effects. Additionally, the designer delved into the concept of contemporary dance, engaging in interviews and personal experiences to capture the essence of LPCP's spirituality and creativity.

Despite facing challenges, such as organizing a large amount of information within the constraints of two posters, Yen Lin Shen successfully created a design that showcases LPCP's core values, achievements, and 14 dancers. This newspaper design goes beyond mere information dissemination; it immerses readers in the world of LPCP, providing new perspectives and insights into their unique approach to contemporary dance.

The LPCP 5th Anniversary newspaper design, published in August 2021 in Taiwan, has garnered recognition in the design world. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Print and Published Media Design category in 2023. This prestigious award celebrates designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
