Gradual Change of the Circle

An Imaginative Installation Reflecting the Evolution of Life

The earth's biosphere: genes, individuals, groups, species, communities, and landscapes have evolved over thousands of years. This artwork is an abstract conceptual approach to the appearance of seeds, buds, shells, mothers, and other imagery, creating an imaginative installation.

The Gradual Change of the Circle, designed by Ying Hsi Liao, is a unique sculpture that captures the essence of life's evolution. Made primarily of stainless steel, the artwork showcases a futuristic and technological vibe with its cash and silver color scheme, achieved through titanium plating. The rounded shape of the piece represents a mother's face, symbolizing her unwavering love and protection day and night, much like the sun and the moon.

Measuring 110cm in width, 120cm in depth, and 120cm in height, this sculpture stands as a testament to the never-ending cycle of life. The lines outside the arc resemble the rhythmic waves of the sea, recording the passage of time and the ebb and flow of the tide.

The design also incorporates the concept of infinity, with the inner concave curved surface reflecting the view of the sky. It brings to mind the biblical passage, "All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full," conveying the idea that life is a continuous journey of growth and expansion.

The Gradual Change of the Circle was launched in 2019 and has garnered recognition for its innovative and creative approach. The artwork's production process prioritizes environmental sustainability, utilizing recyclable materials and reducing waste and pollution. The initial stages involved the use of reusable earth as the material, while the model was created through 3D printing technology using corn-friendly materials.

Ying Hsi Liao's design draws inspiration from the nautilus shell, Tai Chi, and the transformation of the human mind and body. The meticulous execution of the artwork combines computer precision with skilled craftsmanship, resulting in a visually stunning and thought-provoking installation.

The Gradual Change of the Circle was honored with the Iron A' Design Award in 2023. This prestigious accolade recognizes designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The artwork's integration of industry best practices and technical excellence contributes to a better world, evoking fulfillment and positive emotions.
