Ink Highlight: A Unique Residential Design by Kan Shih Ming

Optimal Space Distribution and Visual Enjoyment

Through the balcony windows, daylight leaks into the room, its brightness undulating with the passage of day. This daylight adds a smooth white haze to the space, and the dimness of the living room is like light grey ink fading into the air, layering the depth of color harmony.

For the standard urban modern house, Kan Shih Ming's design concept for Ink Highlight places an emphasis on optimal space distribution for family interaction and cohesion, allowing family members to gather easily and comfortably. The design prioritizes function, carefully considering aesthetics to balance the spatial needs and visual enjoyment of the owner.

The main vision of the design is the use of "Italian thin tiles" with ink patterns on the dining table panel. This unique feature is continued with the beige stone TV wall, while natural pattern wallpapers are used to maintain overall consistency. The design specifications for Ink Highlight are 150 square meters.

The design focus of the public domain is a large functional complex serving as a dining table, a center island, and a bar. The entire surface of the large dining table is made of a splash-ink-landscape Italian marble board, parallel to the corresponding ceiling beams covered with black mirrors. The splash-ink-landscape texture extends from the surface to the L-shaped table legs on the side, elevating the experience of the entire public domain.

The residential field starts from the entry and leads to a series of moving lines, generating a story atmosphere and layer-by-layer interface collision relationship to stimulate aesthetic thinking. The continuous façade performance, mirror reflection, and deco decoration in the space integrate a series of lines, block surfaces, space, and the relationship between human beings.

Despite the challenges posed by the original structure, Kan Shih Ming successfully rearranged irregular structures to accommodate shoe cabinets, storage cabinets, a circuit box, a partition, and a bedside cabinet. This efficient distribution avoids spatial shortcomings and maximizes the functionality of the space.

Ink Highlight was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2023. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, and contributing to a better world.
