Walking in Time

Residential Design by Wu Chiu

Walking in Time is a unique residential design project by renowned designer Wu Chiu. Inspired by the client's love for European and American styles, as well as their passion for collectibles and racing, this design combines serenity and luxury to create a warm and visually stunning space.

The design team behind Walking in Time aimed to create a serene and luxurious atmosphere by incorporating modern and European elements. The use of windows and solid wood louvers allows for ample lighting while maintaining privacy. Upon entering the foyer, one is immediately struck by a sense of quiet and belonging.

Luxury is a key aspect of this design, achieved through the use of trims and marble. The carefully matched patterns of marble and trims create a lush and opulent ambiance throughout the house. The combination of low-saturation, grayscale materials and architectural concrete adds stability and a serene atmosphere. The iron parts and grayscale details contribute to a minimalistic and gentle aesthetic, evoking a sense of warmth and comfort.

The materials used in the realization of this design include electronic fireplaces, natural marble, Italian tiles, titanium plating, leather, iron, glass, mirrors, and more. The design team paid meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that each element contributes to the overall visual impact of the space.

Walking in Time is divided into different areas across multiple floors. The first floor serves as a public area, characterized by solid wood louvers that create a tranquil atmosphere. The second and third floors house the private areas, featuring trims, marble, and wood grain herringbone patterns that add a touch of grandeur and elegance. The fourth and fifth floors serve as storage spaces and terraces, while the basement functions as a garage. The track lighting throughout the house showcases the client's collection, turning them into works of art. A prominent feature on one of the walls is a picture of the family of three riding heavy motorcycles, symbolizing their pursuit of speed and a beautiful life.

Operational aspects of the design were carefully considered by the team. The use of solid wood louvers for lighting and privacy, as well as the division of public and private areas through flooring, contribute to the overall atmosphere of the house. The master bedroom exudes elegance, while the dressing room is customized to accommodate the client's collection.

Walking in Time was completed in February 2021 in Taiwan. The design team conducted extensive research to ensure that the space reflected the client's desires and lifestyle. Despite challenges such as the commercial location and the need to work around existing beams, the team successfully shaped the atmosphere and linked the themes of each floor.

This exceptional design project has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. The award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness demonstrated in Walking in Time, as well as its contribution to improving quality of life through the incorporation of art, science, design, and technology.

Walking in Time is a testament to Wu Chiu's talent and ability to create spaces that are both visually stunning and deeply personal. It is a hidden gem, discreetly located on a street that holds years of cherished memories for the client's family.
