The main concept behind Tranquility is the gradual transition from public to private spaces, allowing the mind to move from calmness to tranquility. The public area features an open plan layout, with a large desk and ceiling-high cabinets that guide the mind into a state of calm. The wood-grained ceiling seamlessly connects to the private area, where the floor-to-ceiling windows in the master bedroom provide a wider view, and the audiovisual room offers a quieter sound. This progression of spatial transitions creates a harmonious flow throughout the space, leading to a sense of tranquility.
One of the key strengths of Tranquility lies in its carefully selected building materials. Low-saturation and grayscale colors dominate the space, creating a visually impactful environment. Natural marble is used to evoke a sense of calmness, while raw concrete adds to the serene atmosphere. Iron parts and grayscale details provide a minimalist touch, balancing simplicity with the warmth of a home. The combination of these materials results in a space that is both tranquil and inviting.
With an interior area of approximately 297.5 square meters, Tranquility features two bedrooms, an audiovisual room, a study room, a living room, and a dining room. The design team's meticulous planning ensures that every aspect of the space contributes to a peaceful mood. Upon entering the foyer, one is immediately greeted by a calm and inviting atmosphere, setting the tone for the entire home.
The interaction within the design is centered around the client's love for music and reading. The spacious audiovisual room and study room provide the perfect environment for indulging in these hobbies. As one moves through the space, the gray stone and wood grains create a warm and soothing ambiance, allowing individuals to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere.
Tranquility was completed in May 2022 in Taiwan, showcasing the designer's commitment to creating a space that fosters tranquility and peace. The name of the project, "Walk into Tranquility," reflects the client's interest and the design team's observation of their needs. By using natural textures and minimalist design principles, the team was able to create a space that embodies the essence of a delicate and serene life.
The design of Tranquility presented its fair share of challenges. The space needed to align with the theme while meeting the client's storage requirements. To address this, the design team incorporated "invisible storage" by seamlessly integrating storage spaces into the molding walls. This technique not only reduced visual clutter but also created a refreshing and unobtrusive environment, allowing individuals to pursue inner peace without distractions.
Tranquility is a testament to the power of design in creating a serene and inviting space. With its minimalist aesthetics, carefully selected materials, and meticulous attention to detail, this residential design by Wu Chiu has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2023. It stands as a shining example of how thoughtful design can enhance the quality of life and create a sanctuary within the home.
