Light Composition: A Modest and Elegant Residential Apartment Design

Connecting Indoor Space with Delicate Changes of Lights

Resembling the textures of fair-face concrete, the wood walls expanded from the entryway to the TV wall compose the modest and elegant attractions. The clear glass decorated behind the sofa in the living room brings sufficient daylight into the house. The long layout is divided into the living and dining room by the clear glass and display wood cabinets.

This residential apartment design, named Light Composition, is a testament to the power of lighting in creating a cohesive and captivating indoor space. Designed by Chien-Neng Chang, this project showcases the unique combination of wood, glass, and light to bring about a harmonious and inviting atmosphere.

The entryway of the apartment is adorned with customized brown wood veneers, creating a tidy and welcoming impression. The captivating lower flat cabinets, connecting to the TV cabinets, subtly develop into a route that guides visitors through the space. This thoughtful design element adds a touch of intrigue and direction to the overall composition.

The use of clear glass throughout the apartment not only allows ample daylight to permeate the space but also effectively prevents cooking fumes from being released into the outdoor environment. This integration of glass brings a luminous quality to the living and dining areas, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day. As a result, the entire indoor space is adorned with indirect lighting, creating a romantic and enchanting ambiance at night.

One of the standout features of Light Composition is the long wood table and metal lighting fixtures in the dining room, which exude an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere. The adjoining white kitchen adds a refreshing touch to the overall design. The floor-to-ceiling clear glass in the kitchen and dining room further enhances the luminosity of the space, reducing the reliance on artificial lighting sources.

The Japanese-style patio, adjacent to the dining room, is adorned with delicate plants and stones, seamlessly integrating the natural elements into the interior design plan. This addition brings about a sense of tranquility and serenity, creating a harmonious connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The design challenges in Light Composition were overcome with creativity and attention to detail. The parlor on the second floor is consistently decorated with a semi-transparent design style, showcasing the wood island counter that expands the integral textures of the wood floors and ceilings. The soft indirect ceiling lighting enhances the aesthetic atmosphere, while the hallway to the private area is adorned with colorful paintings, transforming it into a vibrant vista. The master bedroom, with its soft lighting, exudes a tranquil and graceful ambiance.

The Light Composition project was completed on October 1, 2018, in Taichung, Taiwan. It is a testament to the meticulous research and attention to detail that went into creating a space that seamlessly combines art, design, and technology. This residential apartment design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
