Aqua Flash: A Unique and Artful Apartment Design

Creating an Immersive Living Experience with Light and Color

Taking inspiration from Conceptual art, designer Hsin Ting Weng has transformed the Aqua Flash apartment into a living, self-sustaining artwork. By fusing light and color, this design offers a visually stunning and immersive experience for its residents.

The Aqua Flash apartment stands out from others with its unique design concepts that draw from life experiences. The glass-recessed sliding doors, shaped in two separately asymmetrical semicircles, pay homage to Olafur Eliasson's artwork, The Weather Project. The colorful gradation, inspired by Anish Kapoor's concave mirror works, creates countless variations as sunlight travels through the colored glasses and complements the backlit illumination from hanging and floor-to-ceiling cabinets. The result is an indoor artwork that turns the outdoor scenery into a captivating visual display.

What sets the Aqua Flash apartment apart is not just its visual appeal but also its realization technology. The design incorporates vibrant imagination and exclusive impressions, catering to the apartment owner's personalities. Advancing-color furniture pieces, such as a bright orange sofa, violet pouf, and olive honeycomb shade, create intriguing contrasts against the black laminates and pale pine veneers. The painting on the walls is derived from a patent upcycling topcoat called Lotos, made from the upcycling residues and sediments of local reservoirs.

With a compact size of 60 square meters, the Aqua Flash apartment offers an open-space layout that maximizes daylighting and allows for agile movement. The hanging piece made of bicolor neon glass tubes adds another mood ambiance to the space, providing residents with a unique and immersive experience. Completed in October 2022 in Taichung City, Taiwan, this design showcases the fusion of art and lifestyle.

The Aqua Flash apartment project aimed to make art applicable, accessible, and reproducible for every resident. By incorporating the ideals of conceptual art and bold use of color, the design team transformed this small space into a livable and immersive gallery. The layout not only prioritizes functionality and flexible movement but also aims to coexist harmoniously with the natural surroundings.

Recognized for its creativity and ingenuity, the Aqua Flash apartment design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. This prestigious award honors designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.

With its unique fusion of art, architecture, and lifestyle, the Aqua Flash apartment showcases the power of design to create immersive and visually captivating living spaces.
