Changching Chien's "Light": A New Era in Exhibition Hall Design

Winner of the Silver A' Design Award, "Light" Transforms Traditional Exhibition Spaces

Changching Chien's "Light" is an innovative exhibition hall design that has been awarded the prestigious Silver A' Design Award. The design redefines the traditional exhibition space, focusing on the nature of light and its interaction with the environment. The project, located at the Deke Dejia Design Center in Ningbo City, China, spans 380 square meters and was completed in March 2022.

Chien's inspiration for "Light" was to create a non-typical retail display space with purity and artistry. The design emphasizes functional structure organization and minimizes material stacking, allowing the viewer's focus to remain on the overall image. The space structure uses geometric blocks for collage and carving, creating a sense of order with each plane change. The layout breaks away from the traditional exhibition hall, awakening profound meaning.

Unique features of "Light" include the use of lighting not only as a functional necessity but also as an emotional expression. The lighting embedded in the internal structure slot guides visitors, with brightness and gloss color temperature variations connecting various scenes. The design also features suspended acrylic partitions, creating a diversified art and a mysterious world of light and shadow.

The realization of "Light" was achieved through linear light guidance, space partitioning with suspended acrylic, and scene lighting atmosphere shaping. The display in each functional area is simple, with no high-saturation color block and decoration except for the change of light color. This approach presents pure light and shadow art, focusing on the overall coordination and control of light. The hidden lamps bring a quiet and secretive ambiance to the environment.

Chien faced challenges in maintaining the overall coordination and control of light, focusing on the "temperament" and "advanced sense" of the lamp color on the vision in the grayscale space. However, the designer's focus on the nature of light, its types, appearance patterns, color brightness, and dynamic changes, resulted in a unique indoor light environment that integrates light and space.

The "Light" project started on June 30, 2021, and was completed on March 1, 2022. The design was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
