For individuals, home is the place where family members bond, unite, and belong. It is only when individuals interact with each other in a shared living space that it embodies and realizes the meaning of "home". The Family Bonding project, designed by Shi Jie Zhou, is a house located halfway up the mountain, serving as the homeowner's future retirement home and a guest house.
As one opens the brown door to the interior, they will notice the ceiling designed with a distinctive upward sloping curve that extends from the entrance to the living and dining room, quietly opening up the visual space. The flowing marble floor tiles in the living room bring a sense of dynamism to the static carriers. The living room is colored in taupe, with a few wood grains and black objects to convey a simple texture. A gap intentionally planned by the designer separates the white marbled TV wall cabinet, creating an artistic effect of framing and simultaneously increasing the sense of visual penetration.
The dining room, with wooden flooring, features a unique combination of a wine cabinet, a fireplace, and a heat insulation design to keep the quality of wine in good condition. The air is filled with a romantic and relaxing atmosphere as diners enjoy the food and wine while looking out the window. The light brown, white, and black colors are set as the primary color scheme, with some metal objects disclosing a light and luxurious texture. The kitchen incorporates a center island bar with a geomancy fish tank, creating a practical end-view art in the space, catering to the homeowner's hobby of keeping fish.
The back wall is indirectly illuminated by the installation at the beveled corner below the staircase, cleverly separating the division into two parts and harmonizing the geometric table in the living room. Along the other side of the wood-grained wall, a hidden pull-out cabinet is installed to make good use of the misplaced space and meet the homeowner's needs for storage. In the living and dining room interface, the dark stone wall combines the fireplace design to demonstrate a warm and calm atmosphere, making the visitor feel the warmth of home intuitively.
The Family Bonding project was completed in July 2021 in Chiayi City, Taiwan. With its elegant and dynamic living room design, incorporating flowing marble floor tiles, a simple color palette, and a combination of materials, colors, textures, and lighting, this residence offers a visually stunning and comfortable living space for the family to bond and create lasting memories.
