The Rhyme of Ink: Blending Tradition and Modernity in Residential Design

An Elegant Fusion of Oriental Style and Contemporary Aesthetics

The design team drew inspiration from the flowing brushstrokes of traditional ink paintings, using a combination of wood, stone, and color to create a contemporary interpretation of Oriental style. The use of plenty of wooden elements and marbles removes the need for excessive decoration, resulting in a space that is simple, clean, and elegant.

One of the unique features of The Rhyme of Ink is the incorporation of the concept of floating clouds, flowing water, and fog into the design. The simple and pure color spectrum reflects the white art in ink paintings, creating a humanistic indoor scenery. Large floor-to-ceiling windows connect the space with the outdoor city scenery, harmoniously blending the interior with the surrounding landscapes.

The realization of The Rhyme of Ink involved a combination of various materials and technologies. The entrance is paved with rich and colorful oriental painting stones, leading to a TV wall made of Hanjiangxue Marble. The interplay of stones and woods in the public areas adds a natural expression to the residential project, while the private areas feature different fabric materials and bright color harmonies to reflect the personality and preferences of each resident.

Technical specifications were carefully considered in the design process. To overcome the load-bearing problem of the heavy stone used in the TV wall, a strong adhesive structural base and iron frame were employed. The TV wall also features a movable lift that hides the audio lines, ensuring a clean and seamless aesthetic.

The Rhyme of Ink is not only visually stunning but also incorporates smart technology. The design team took into account the clients' cooking habits and created a kitchen area that is divided into a wet kitchen, an island dining table for snacks, and a dining area with smooth circulation. The inclusion of large-capacity storage space and a round turntable caters to the needs of receiving guests.

This project was completed in November 2019 in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. The design team conducted extensive research to create a space that reflects the essence of Oriental ink painting. Challenges included planning the complicated circuit of cables for the smart house technology, ensuring invisibility, cleanliness, and neatness in the design.

The Rhyme of Ink has been recognized for its excellence in design, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design of The Rhyme of Ink integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, contributing to a better world.
