Bean Buro's design for Grosvenor Hong Kong, a 5,000 sqft office space, is a testament to their unique approach to workplace design. The agency was tasked with creating an open plan workspace that not only provided flexible seating but also included a variety of support spaces such as formal meeting rooms, collaboration rooms, focus rooms, and well-being rooms. The result is a workspace that is as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing.
The design draws inspiration from the history of Jardine House and its historical tea trading activities. The iconic circular windows of Jardine House, a symbol of well-being, are echoed in the circular architectural forms used throughout the office space. These forms, reminiscent of the tranquil and natural environment of oriental tea gardens, create a serene and engaging atmosphere in the workplace.
One of the standout features of the design is the reception area, which doubles as an art gallery. The gallery features contemporary art pieces by renowned artists such as Anish Kapoor, Damien Hirst, and Nam June Paik. These art pieces serve as important interventions that engage with people and space, nurturing a non-hierarchical company culture that is driven by the people in the workplace.
The design also prioritizes user experience and well-being. Employees can choose to work in a variety of spaces, from informal focus rooms to phone booths and a pantry cafe. The design also incorporates well-designed, environmentally friendly materials and energy-saving systems, earning it the WELL™ Gold Level for New and Existing Interiors, one of the first in Hong Kong to achieve this accolade.
Bean Buro's design for Grosvenor Hong Kong is not just a workplace, but a testament to the power of design in creating engaging, functional, and sustainable spaces. The project was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
