Interior design takes a thrilling turn in Kenneth Wen's latest project, "Diameter". Drawing inspiration from the dynamic world of racing, Wen and his team have created a space that is as much about speed and movement as it is about form and function. The R-style facade of the building is a nod to racing tracks, serving as the conceptual cornerstone of the entire structure.
What sets "Diameter" apart is its unique architectural features. The 6-meter-high building conforms to the curvature of the letter R, a feat of design and engineering. The grand wooden entrance is another highlight, with a double-acting door that mimics the spinning of auto rims and a door handle that resembles the customized car wheels promoted by the company.
Wen's team has also made a conscious effort to incorporate native Taiwanese elements into the design, with the aim of boosting Taiwan's international reputation. The building's exterior is made of exposed concrete, while ample sunlight enhances the overall quality of the structure. The design also takes into account environmental factors, integrating elements like sun, air, and water.
The interior of the building is equally impressive. The exhibition hall features a large wall decorated with event chronicles, showcasing the manufacturing process of car rims. A glass wall offers a glimpse of the exciting world of racing, reinforcing the company's association with the sport.
The project, completed in March 2016 in Tainan City, Taiwan, covers a space of 215 square meters. It was not without its challenges, particularly in creating a large indoor space that evokes the atmosphere of a flight hangar. However, the final result is a testament to the team's exceptional construction skills and commitment to producing one-of-a-kind designs.
"Diameter" has been recognized for its innovative design, winning Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018. This prestigious accolade is awarded to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and "Diameter" certainly fits the bill. With its unique blend of racing and architecture, Kenneth Wen's project is a shining example of the exciting possibilities in interior design.
