Origami Shikki draws its inspiration from three traditional Japanese elements: origami, lacquer, and washi. Origami, the art of paper folding, lacquer, a centuries-old craft, and washi, a traditional paper with production sites all over Japan, are all integral parts of Japanese culture. Despite the challenges posed by the nature of lacquer, which cracks when force is applied after curing, Morita succeeded in folding the lacquer-coated Japanese paper like origami without cracking the coating.
