Curved: Redefining Residential Design

Przemyslaw Cepielik's Award-Winning Approach to Modern Living

Curved, a project by Przemyslaw Cepielik, is a residential design that redefines the conventional boundaries of interior architecture. Inspired by the building's elliptical outer walls, the design embraces smooth, soft lines and oval shapes, creating a warm and elegant interior. The design's unique properties lie in its seamless transition from public to private space, the absence of conventional doors, and the subtle, well-designed lighting that enhances the overall aesthetic.

The design was realized using a combination of Khalo stone, fabrics, and furniture boards that give a fabric feel. The smoothness of forms was achieved with MDF furniture, and the lighting was designed based on hidden busbar systems. All furniture, except for the armchair, was custom-made, and pocket doors were used to completely hide household appliances. The division of functions is carried out with a set of furniture, creating a rational and perfectly designed living space.

The apartment covers an area of 66m2 and is divided into two main zones: the living room with a kitchen annex and the bedroom with a bathroom annex. The design's non-standard treatment of passages between zones and the absence of conventional doors invite exploration and create a sense of harmony and balance. The design's minimalist approach, combined with modern materials and architectural lighting, results in an original and elegant interior.

The project began its design in 2020 in Cracow, Poland, and was officially completed in March 2022. Despite the challenges of departing from traditional space division and hiding structural elements that didn't match the concept shapes, the design team managed to create a warm, harmonious interior. The design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023, a testament to its innovative approach and remarkable execution.
