Unleashing Pandora's Red Box: A Unique Dining Experience

Shi-Zhe Luo's Award-Winning Interior Design Transforms Restaurant Space

The design was inspired by the image of Pandora's box, and the restaurant is predominantly decorated in red. This bold choice of color creates an atmosphere of surprise and intrigue, reminiscent of the mythological Pandora's box. The restaurant offers American-style food and sports viewing, catering to both individual diners and groups.

One of the unique features of this design is the boomerang-style bar. Given the limited space, Luo faced the challenge of creating a bar that was both visually appealing and practical. The boomerang-style design not only enhances the working efficiency but also generates visual strength.

The project, completed in 2017 in Taichung City, Taiwan, covers a space of 77 square meters. Luo's design cleverly distinguishes between smoking and non-smoking areas through the use of glass curtains. These curtains, designed into four pieces and faces, and 16 points, ensure the architectural structure's sustainability against wind blowing.

Luo's design also showcases his commitment to environmental sustainability. The design team recycled waste from construction materials, transforming them into ornaments that add to the restaurant's unique aesthetic. The walls are decorated with rough red bricks, evoking a sense of nostalgia. Other elements like old-fashioned deck woods on the pillar columns, coppers along the staircase, and vapor-proof derrick lights contribute to the quaint atmosphere.

Despite the challenges, Luo's design successfully blends old culture with the modern world. Scrap metals were refurbished into a basin, and wasted water pipes were repurposed, displaying a creative approach to recycling and sustainability. The tool kit, arranged in a 16-palace grid, has become a part of the adornments as well.
