Revolutionizing Barbecuing: The B2Q Kit by Qinwen Feng

Winner of the Silver A' Camping Gear and Outdoor Equipment Design Award in 2023

Qinwen Feng redefines the barbecuing experience with the B2Q Kit, a portable, modular, and sophisticated solution that integrates all necessary tools into a single suitcase.

Barbecuing is a beloved activity worldwide, but it often involves lugging around a variety of tools and ingredients in a disorganized manner. Qinwen Feng, a visionary designer, observed this inconvenience and was inspired to create the B2Q Kit. This innovative design integrates all the tools needed for a barbecue for two to three people into a single, elegantly designed suitcase. The B2Q Kit is not just a grill; it's a complete barbecuing experience.

The B2Q Kit stands out for its unique properties. It's a single suitcase with two layers and three adjustable heights, suitable for any scenario. The days of simple meat heating are over; barbecuing has evolved into a more sophisticated process, from preparation to the end of cooking. The B2Q Kit caters to this evolution, allowing people to start their barbecue elegantly and conveniently, regardless of the location.

Realizing this design involved a combination of 3D printing, aluminum tube cutting, 0.8mm steel sheet metal, woodworking, and spray coating. The final product closely resembles the prototype, with a right-side cavity board that can be propped up or placed perpendicular to the grill's right side. An extended table plate can also be arranged on the side of the grill, and the table legs come in two heights: 840mm for standing and 400mm for sitting.

The B2Q Kit is not just about aesthetics; it's also about functionality. As a suitcase, it carries everything needed for a barbecue, from plates and cutlery cases to the chopping board. The top part opens up for easy access to utensils, and the gas can be conveniently installed below the plate. The grill's legs feature rubber parts to prevent slippage and provide cushioning. With the B2Q Kit, there's no need to carry heavy equipment to enjoy a barbecue.

The B2Q Kit was developed in Taipei, starting in October 2021 and finishing in April 2022. It was exhibited in the Taipei Design Museum from August to October 2022 and will be displayed at Taipei Shih Chien University for a year. The design process involved extensive research, including interviews, persona development, competitor analysis, user journey mapping, sketching, and prototyping. The most challenging part was designing and arranging the layered structure of the grill to ensure the internal fire parts did not conflict with the grill space. However, through testing and prototyping, the ideal layered design was achieved.

The B2Q Kit by Qinwen Feng is a testament to the power of design in enhancing everyday experiences. It's a revolutionary approach to barbecuing that combines elegance, convenience, and functionality in a single suitcase. This design has been recognized with the Silver A' Camping Gear and Outdoor Equipment Design Award in 2023, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation. The B2Q Kit is not just a product; it's a new way of experiencing barbecues.
