Light Tent Air: Revolutionizing Outdoor Camping with Green Energy

Wei Bai, Jiajin He and Xiaowei Yin's Inflatable PV Tabernacle Wins Silver A' Design Award

With the growing trend towards carbon-neutral living, the Light Tent Air offers a sustainable solution for outdoor camping, integrating photovoltaic power generation technology into an inflatable tabernacle. This innovative design by Wei Bai, Jiajin He and Xiaowei Yin, which won the Silver A' Design Award, effectively reduces domestic carbon emissions while providing convenience and functionality.

The Light Tent Air stands out for its unique application of flexible solar cells with a high conversion rate and strong plasticity. This design feature allows outdoor campers to have a power supply without the need for additional photovoltaic equipment. The inflatable design is space-saving and easy to carry, with a total output power of 1200W, sufficient for the power demand of a 4-5 person camping group.

The inflatable tabernacle is made of thermoplastic polyurethane, a material known for its lightness, wearability, waterproofness, flame-retardance, heat-resistance, and ease of cleaning. The surface features a reflective aluminium coating that reflects excess solar energy, ensuring the tent remains cool even under direct sunlight. The flexible gallium arsenide solar cells are firmly combined with the reversible canopy through a high-frequency heat sealing process, forming an energy supply matrix.

Light Tent Air is not just a tent, but an interactive design that works with the environment. Its reversible canopy design and flexible angle adjustment ensure the battery is at the best light-receiving angle to maximize solar energy use. The tabernacle also includes a built-in energy storage module, storing the electricity generated during the day for use at night.

Wei Bai, Jiajin He and Xiaowei Yin faced the challenge of integrating solar cells with inflatable tabernacles. They solved this by combining the flexible gallium arsenide solar cell with the reversible canopy through a high-frequency heat sealing process, resulting in a durable and reliable design. This innovative solution not only breaks the design of traditional inflatable tabernacles but also contributes to reducing carbon emissions.

The Light Tent Air project, set to finish in March 2023 in Shenzhen, is a testament to the designers' commitment to green energy and portable design. The design has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award, a prestigious accolade awarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
