Euna Park's "I Park The Urban": A Revolutionary Design Concept

Transforming Urban Spaces Through Innovative Architecture and Design

Euna Park's "I Park The Urban" project is a groundbreaking design that redefines the urban landscape. This article delves into the inspiration, unique properties, and realization technology of this award-winning design.

The "I Park The Urban" project, designed by Euna Park, is a complex cultural space that aims to create a community valley with downtown functions in Godeok Biz Valley. The project was inspired by the concept of "Big Box & Down Town Village" and prioritizes lifestyle over formative emphasis. The design process involved collaboration with a large Swedish furniture brand and distributors, and was guided by market logic.

The project stands out as the largest business-commercial-cultural complex in Seoul and is the first project by a large Swedish furniture brand to enter the capital. The design incorporates work facilities with the first live-office concept, responding to lifestyle changes brought about by the pandemic. The complex offers a one-stop service for culture, leisure, shopping, and food, enabling an independent lifestyle.

Euna Park's design is eco-friendly, utilizing geothermal and solar energy as heat sources. The construction processes and finishing materials were carefully selected to achieve the first grade of eco-friendly leads. The exterior materials were chosen with the environment, maintenance, and sustainability in mind, favoring clay-based ceramics and tiles over metal materials.

The project, located in the central district of Godeok Biz Valley, began in 2017 and is set to be completed in November 2024. The design was influenced by a study on the changes in consumption sales and influencing factors in Seoul's residential area using big data around COVID-19, conducted by Sohn Soo-min, a Master of Seoul National University.

The project faced several challenges, including proposing a new type of office that allows both work and housing in response to lifestyle changes caused by the pandemic. Despite these challenges, the project received a positive market response, selling about 600 units in three days. The project's success has led to the creation of a new category for the live-office in Seoul.

The "I Park The Urban" project was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2023. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. Euna Park's design certainly fits this description, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
