Zhuhai Huafa Plaza: A Modern Marvel of Chinese Virtue and Elegance

Embodying Tradition and Innovation in Commercial Development

The Zhuhai Huafa Plaza, located in Hengqin Island of Zhuhai, PRC, is a unique commercial development project by the Huafa Group. Its design is inspired by traditional Chinese virtue "respect", as demonstrated by the positioning and distancing of the three towers. Each tower is given proper space and view, while connections and linkage are realized on the podium courtyard levels. The façade design, inspired by the patterns of traditional Chinese window frames, showcases the elegance and richness of Chinese culture.

What sets the Zhuhai Huafa Plaza apart is its strategic location and innovative design. Overlooking the river separating it from Macau, the site is juxtaposed with three high-rise towers and a series of retail pavilions. These structures create a range of internal and semi-external environments, accommodating retail facilities and office space within a simple circuit layout around two central courtyard gardens. The design takes advantage of the waterfront and the park along, creating intimate ground level spaces and garden courtyards.

The realization of this architectural marvel was made possible through advanced design, modeling, and engineering software. The retail podium courtyards are characterized by a series of funnel-like pavilion structures along the main outdoor circulation. The form and structural size were designed, tested, and derived by the architect and structural engineer to optimize structural size and realize the architect’s vision.

The Zhuhai Huafa Plaza is a large-scale project, amalgamating two development plots with a total land area of 62,810sqm. The total gross floor area is over 395,000sqm, accommodating boutique retail facilities and office space. The tallest tower stands at 250m high, making it a significant landmark in the area.

The project was started in 2019 and is targeted to be completed by mid-2023. The prestigious site offers an unobstructed view towards the surrounding bay area. The overall layout works in synergy with the overall district master grid and skyline, fostering a sense of continuity, rationality, and economy of planning. The office towers are oriented to maximize waterfront views without compromising privacy. On podium levels, large sculptural pavilions lead the way to the retail terraces and form a series of landscaped spaces.

The Zhuhai Huafa Plaza has been recognized for its outstanding design, winning the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The Zhuhai Huafa Plaza is indeed a testament to the future of architectural design, embodying tradition and innovation in its structures.
