Wu Residence: A Harmonious Blend of Nature and Art

A Modern Minimalist Villa Designed by Guojian Yao

This independent private villa, located in the Green Lung of Xinpu in Zunyi City, Guizhou Province, is a testament to the seamless integration of nature and art. Designed by Guojian Yao, the Wu Residence offers a warm and soothing retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Designed for a family of three who are passionate about music and travel, the Wu Residence embodies a sense of casualness, communication, and interactivity. The owners provided keywords such as piano, space, and beauty, which served as the foundation for the design concept. The interiors feature a modern minimalist architecture with a touch of light resort style, creating a stylish and elegant living environment.

The design team focused on using natural materials to maintain the warmth and simplicity of the space. Ceramic tile slabs, natural marble, and wood finishes were chosen to create a unique texture that exudes tranquility. The color palette revolves around white and original wood tones, evoking a Nordic slow-paced living atmosphere. To add a touch of delicacy, high-quality mahogany furniture was carefully selected.

Spanning a total area of 750 square meters, the Wu Residence comprises 450 square meters of indoor living space and a 300-square-meter garden. The layout spans five floors, including two underground garages, storage rooms, entertainment spaces, and three floors dedicated to living and rest areas. The design embraces a simple structure that enhances overall harmony and artistry, breaking away from the traditional closed structure of Jiangnan Chinese architecture.

Natural light plays a pivotal role in the architectural space, entering through the courtyard, garden, and large glass windows. This seamless connection between the interior and exterior creates a diverse spatial hierarchy, blurring the boundaries between the two. The centerpiece of the design is the glass-permeable Swedish elevator, which allows natural light to permeate horizontally and vertically throughout the villa, enriching the light and shadow effects and creating a sense of vertical movement.

The Wu Residence, completed in 2021, is a testament to the continuous communication and adjustment between the design team and the owners. The white space within the villa allows for flexibility and adaptability, enabling the owners to transform the space with the changing times. This design approach encourages relaxation, dialogue, and privacy, resulting in a refined, comfortable, and quality living space.

The Wu Residence has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that embody resourcefulness, technical prowess, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.
