Reviving Tradition Through Art: The Old Town of Lijiang

Ju Jijing's Award-Winning Illustrations Breathe New Life into Ancient Culture

Ju Jijing's inspiration for this project stemmed from a desire to protect and promote the culture of Lijiang's ancient village. The designer sought to explore the visual representation of traditional culture through a local illustration style. The aim was to express the rich culture in a manner that resonates with the modern audience, thereby fostering a love and awareness for cultural preservation.

What sets this design apart is its innovative approach to cultural preservation. Through the medium of illustration, Ju Jijing has creatively conceptualized cultural heritage elements, creating an atmospheric scene with layered colors. The result is a modern representation of Lijiang's unique natural heritage and national charm, effectively communicating the region's humanistic and natural culture in a way that aligns with modern aesthetics.

The series of illustrations were realized using vector design software, with high-level printing and manufacturing technologies employed to bring out the exquisite details. Each illustration measures 800mm by 800mm, with a resolution of 150dpi in RGB color. The illustrations depict various aspects of the ancient village, including derivative stamps and national style illustrations.

The project, which began in September 2022 and concluded in January 2023, was a collaborative effort between Ju Jijing and Art Director Huo Kai. The team faced the challenge of creatively expressing culture through graphic design, combining modern aesthetics with traditional culture, and accurately capturing the characteristics of national style illustrations while retaining traditional charm.

Despite these challenges, the team successfully created a series of illustrations that not only showcase the beauty of the Old Town of Lijiang but also serve as a call to action for the preservation of such cultural treasures. The project is a testament to the power of art as a tool for cultural preservation and a reminder of the importance of safeguarding our shared heritage for future generations.
