Hexa: A Revolutionary Design in Lighting

Sepehr Mehrdadfar's Hexa Lamp: A Blend of Tradition and Innovation

Hexa's design is a testament to the beauty of geometric patterns. Drawing inspiration from Girih and miniature, traditional Iranian architectural decorations, Mehrdadfar has created a lamp that not only illuminates a space but also enhances its aesthetic appeal. The hexagonal pattern, reminiscent of the intricate interlaced strapwork of Islamic geometric patterns, adds a layer of sophistication to the design.

But Hexa is not just about aesthetics. It's a functional piece of design that offers broad and localized lighting modes. Each module of the lamp is made of an extruded aluminum profile in a U shape, rolled at an angle of 120 degrees. Inside, an LED is placed, and the opening of the U is closed with a Plexiglas sheet, acting as a diffuser. The lamp can be installed and connected in three modes: surface, built-in, and hanging, offering flexibility in its usage.

One of the unique features of Hexa is its ability to expand in space. A Hexa is one third of a full hexagon, a division that increases the lamp's variety of composition and expansion. This feature, combined with the lamp's magnetic connection, makes it easy to assemble, disassemble, move, and replace, giving the user control over the light network.

The design process of Hexa was not without its challenges. Choosing the appropriate geometric shape as the initial model was a crucial step. Odd polygons do not extend in a straight line, but even polygons do. A hexagon was chosen because it formed a more complex structure than a quadrilateral and simpler than a higher degree pair of polygons.

Hexa's design is a testament to Mehrdadfar's innovative approach to lighting design. It's a design that not only serves a functional purpose but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of a space. It's no wonder that this design was awarded Silver in A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2023, a recognition of its outstanding expertise and innovation.
