Revolutionizing Playtime: Linglin Liang's Tenki

Spliced Magnetic Attraction Toy Merges Fun and Learning

Designed by Linglin Liang, Tenki is a unique splice-type digital toy that introduces children to basic power knowledge through interactive play. The award-winning design aims to bridge the gap between children and digital life in a safe, accessible, and engaging manner.

Inspired by the need for age-appropriate digital toys, Linglin Liang developed Tenki. As digital life becomes increasingly prevalent, traditional toys fail to meet the evolving needs of children. Tenki, with its simple conductive structure, serves as a carrier to disseminate interesting circuit knowledge, making digital life accessible to children at a low threshold.

What sets Tenki apart from other toys is its unique design and functionality. It comprises different power generation modules and a combination of power modules. The toy structure incorporates a magnetic suction module, burying the wire into the connector to eliminate the risk of wire exposure common in traditional electronic toys. This design not only ensures safety but also provides an engaging way for children to learn about power generation and consumption.

The realization of this innovative design involves a power generation module, a power consumption module, a structural module, and magnetic attraction. Each module contains wires connected by magnetic attraction. The power generated by the power generation module is transmitted to the power consumption module through the internal wires, demonstrating a practical example of energy conversion.

With a two-way connector measuring 30 mm x 15 mm x 15 mm and a six-way connector measuring 60 mm x 60 mm x 60 mm, Tenki is a compact and portable toy. Children can freely choose connectors, conceive building blocks, and explore various combinations of energy conversion, making playtime both fun and educational.

The project, which started in September 2022 in China and concluded in December of the same year, faced the challenge of high-precision assembly due to space limitations inside the connector. Nevertheless, the design team successfully overcame this hurdle, resulting in a toy that effectively connects children with digital life in a low-threshold form.

For its innovative approach to children's toys, Tenki was awarded the Golden A' Toys, Games, and Hobby Products Design Award in 2023. The award recognizes marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
