Sunnest, designed by King Him Ho, is a unique bedside table lamp that offers behavioral interaction with users to reduce stress during sleep. Inspired by the natural phenomenon of sunset, this lamp mimics the fading out of light to create a soothing ambiance and help users fall asleep more easily.
The main feature of Sunnest is its breathing light, which gradually fades out to provide a calming effect. By twisting the top part of the lamp in an anticlockwise direction, users can control the size of the light projected on the wall or ceiling. This interaction is achieved through an iris shutter mechanism, consisting of two 3D printed shutter bases and six shutter blades. The gradual disappearance of light, similar to a sunset, can relieve stress and promote relaxation.
The design of Sunnest also pays attention to the aesthetics and functionality. The main body of the lamp is crafted using a lathe machine, which rotates wood pieces to create a conical shape. This combination of wood and the iris shutter mechanism gives the lamp a unique and elegant appearance.
Technical specifications of Sunnest include a width of 96mm, depth of 96mm, and height of 155mm. The lamp is designed to be compact and portable, making it suitable for bedside use.
Although Sunnest is still in the concept and initial prototyping stage, it has already received recognition in the design community. The lamp was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2023. This award recognizes the lamp's well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements.
Sunnest is not just a lamp; it is a solution to improve sleep quality and reduce stress. With its unique breathing light and behavioral interaction, this bedside table lamp offers a new way to create a soothing environment for a good night's sleep.
