Wave: A Seamless Blend of Nature and Design

Creating a Personalized Living Experience

The Wave, a residential house designed by Minwoo Ahn, offers a unique and visceral interaction with nature. Embracing the natural landscape, this single detached dwelling provides a living experience that is both general and unique. With its emphasis on the fusion of the indoor and outdoor spaces, Wave stands out amidst the urban complex housings.

Wave is not your ordinary residential house. It is a carefully curated space that prioritizes the everyday experience of its users. The design focuses on creating a harmonious blend of solitude and communal space, with the living area and bar designed as fused spaces for entertainment. The presence of skylights in the bathroom of the guest room on the basement floor allows natural light to filter in, enhancing the overall ambiance.

Technology plays a crucial role in the realization of Wave. Elaborate details of the staircase, glass railing, and post were designed to harmonize with the natural landscape scenery. The open kitchen on the first floor serves as the central space, with a prominent book matching hanging wall. Computer simulations and material sampling were conducted to ensure a seamless integration of structure, function, and finishing.

Measuring at 29,650mm x 1,1000 mm x 16,300 mm, Wave boasts impressive technical specifications. Its interior design, luxury features, and modern aesthetics make it a standout in the residential architecture scene.

Wave is not just a house; it is an interactive space that caters to the needs of its residents. The open kitchen serves as a shared space for guests, while the scullery provides a private space for the family. Divided areas in the basement and shared living room reflect the owner's preferences, enhancing usability. High-performance hardware and motorized blinds promote ease of use and customizable lighting, reducing repetitive housework and enhancing the overall experience.

The Wave project began in April 2019 and was completed in February 2021 in Bundanggu, Seongnamsi, Gyeonggido. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to ensure that every aspect of the house contributes to the user's fulfillment. By delivering a space that provides security, relaxation, and a close interaction with nature, Wave creates a therapeutic environment for families to thrive in.

Designing Wave came with its fair share of challenges. The theme of landscape scenery inspired various ideas related to the architectural context. From a guest bathroom with a high ceiling to a heavy natural stone wall as part of the landscape scenery, every detail was carefully considered to create a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors. The hanging fireplace, a unique design element, separates the living space and kitchen while still providing warmth and a sense of unity.

Wave is a testament to the power of design in creating a personalized living experience. With its seamless blend of nature and architecture, it offers a sanctuary for its residents. The high ceilings, large windows, and attention to detail create an inviting ambiance that promotes relaxation and comfort. It is no wonder that Wave was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2023 for its outstanding creativity and resourcefulness.

Experience the Wave and immerse yourself in a living space that celebrates the harmony between design and nature.
