Black Cant System: A Unique Fashion Store Design

Creating a Space of Art, Music, and Exhibition

The project is located on the second floor of a furniture store and can only be accessed through a long and narrow staircase in the middle of the store. This design concept makes Black Cant System a shop within a shop, with the staircase serving as the gateway to this innovative space. By opening up the staircase area, the designers have transformed the space into a distinctive shape.

The interior of Black Cant System features a primitive concrete structure, with a large black inclined plane block inserted into the space. This block is connected to the entire staircase, creating a seamless integration between the two. The use of marble powder gives the block a lustrous appearance, while the handcrafted fan-shaped handrails add a touch of elegance.

The design team paid attention to every detail, including the stainless steel accessories and the unique texture of the hand-polished stainless steel surfaces. The black beveled edge and welding scars are intentionally left exposed, showcasing the craftsmanship and industrial quality of the space. The design also incorporates aluminum chandeliers, mirrors, clothing display racks, and stainless steel display stands, all individually configurable to suit the needs of the store.

Black Cant System offers a unique interaction with its customers. The black inclined block overhead occupies 50% of the total area, creating a sense of drama and grandeur. Two large mirrors strategically placed in the space create an illusion of depth and invite guests to explore the vastness of the system. The space is divided into two sections by the excessively inclined black body block, giving each area its own distinct atmosphere.

The design project for Black Cant System was completed in October 2015 in Hangzhou, China. It covers an area of 200 square meters, with a height of 3.5 meters and a channel width of 1.3 meters. The materials used include marble powder, steel structure, wood board, cement board, and glue.

Black Cant System has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2016 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award honors designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.
