The Henley: A Space Journey-Inspired Coffee Shop

Bringing the Cosmos to Your Coffee Break

Through an entrance that resembles the door of a spacecraft, customers enter The Henley and are immediately immersed in a brightly lit space. The journey begins with a long, narrow corridor that leads to the coffee bar and the main seating area. The interior design incorporates plants, curves, custom-made lighting, and materials in different textures and finishes, creating a sense of comfort and a space journey atmosphere.

The design team, led by Lok Ping Edwin Chow, aimed to strike a balance between hard and soft, warm and cold materials. Steel, aluminum, concrete, wood, feature glass, and ESG fabrics and paint were carefully handpicked to bring the spacecraft concept to life. The irregularly-shaped space posed a challenge, but the team successfully integrated the design concept and a sense of spaciousness into the coffee shop.

The flow and functionality of The Henley are closely connected to the architecture of the space. The narrow entrance and long corridor were designed to guide customers into the main seating area, where they can enjoy the brand’s coffees, pastries, and merchandise. The circular flow ensures a seamless and immersive experience for every visitor.

The Henley project started in May 2022 and was completed in December 2022 in Hong Kong. Despite the challenges posed by the unique space, the design team, including Lok Ping Edwin Chow, Hei Chi Sophia Leung, Long Yin Angus Au, Wing Sze Sharon Chan, and Yee Ting Vanessa Choi, successfully brought the spacecraft-inspired coffee shop to life.

The Henley's innovative design and attention to detail have been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2023. This prestigious award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness of the design, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life. The Henley truly offers a coffee experience that is out of this world.
