Song Han's Award-Winning Design Merges Art with Functionality

The Snow Mountain Lounge, conceived by the visionary designer Song Han, is not just a building; it's a multifaceted experience. Described by Han as resembling a "sparkling diamond" or an "ethereal wing," the structure is a marvel of modern design that serves multiple purposes. It's a marketing experience center that caters to industry, business, office, residence, and hotel sectors, while also functioning as a municipal urban exhibition hall and community art center.

What sets the Snow Mountain Lounge apart is its commitment to balance and individuality. Han's design philosophy emphasizes the importance of creating spaces that are both grand and intimate, futuristic yet personal. This approach is evident in the seamless integration of the building's exterior and interior, where the façade and internal spaces flow into one another, creating a harmonious environment that encourages interaction and openness.

The centerpiece of the design is the "Aurora Polaris," an installation artwork stretching approximately 300 meters. Made from countless pieces of acrylic, the artwork captures the essence of the aurora borealis, bringing a cosmic spectacle indoors. This cryogenic masterpiece is a bold statement of transparency and mystery, embodying the ethereal quality that Han aimed to achieve.

Challenges faced during the design process included ensuring that the various spaces within the building interacted with light effectively, promoting a sense of sharing and openness. The design team, comprising Shenzhen Horizon Space Design Co., Ltd. and Song Han, worked meticulously to ensure that the structure not only met aesthetic standards but also fostered human connection and embraced the natural environment.

The project, which commenced in January 2021 and concluded in October of the same year, was a rapid yet intensive endeavor that took place in Chengdu. The research underlying the design centered on three core principles: the space must be alive, humans within the space should be beautiful, and the space should be embracing. These guiding tenets are palpably felt throughout the Snow Mountain Lounge, making it a living, breathing entity that enhances human beauty and interaction.

In recognition of its design excellence, the Snow Mountain Lounge was awarded the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2024. This accolade is a nod to the project's creative prowess, technical sophistication, and the positive impact it has on its visitors. The Snow Mountain Lounge, through Song Han's visionary lens, has become a beacon of design innovation, where every corner speaks of the symbiosis between human experience and architectural artistry.
