Hisashi Seike has masterfully crafted an office and factory complex that stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of natural elements and industrial materials. The design draws inspiration from the client's new company name and Japanese aesthetics, resulting in a space that fosters creativity and collaboration. The complex, with a total floor area of 3366㎡, is a renovation of an existing factory, transformed into a modern workspace that respects its industrial roots while embracing a serene, Japanese-inspired ambiance.
The office complex's unique properties lie in its thoughtful integration of contrasting elements. Conference rooms boast Japanese paper walls, while glass partitions create a sense of openness throughout the office space. The rest area is particularly striking, featuring a staircase-like kitchen and a stage-like living and dining room, designed to inspire and promote staff well-being. The restroom's flow line, adorned with runway markings, symbolizes the company's global journey and aspirations.
Seike's design realization technology is a physical manifestation of the "X = combining" ethos. The entrance sets the tone with its fusion of earthy tones, wood, and stainless steel, signifying a step into advanced manufacturing. The use of glass and Japanese paper throughout the office area fosters a transparent and culturally rich environment. The rest area's innovative design encourages relaxation and social interaction, further enhancing the space's organic coziness.
The design's functionality is centered around the "X" theme, promoting a collaborative and innovative workspace. The glass partitions facilitate teamwork, while the Japanese paper walls add a touch of cultural identity. The staircase kitchen and stage-like living/dining area offer unique spaces for employees to recharge and connect. The corridor's runway markings not only guide the way but also serve as a metaphor for the company's expansive vision.
The project's timeframe spanned from January 2021 to May 2022, with the design coming to life in Osaka City. Despite challenges such as integrating organic materials to soften the industrial feel of a manufacturing factory, Seike's design successfully encapsulates the client's vision. The office and factory complex now stands as a beacon of modern design, where organic and inorganic elements coexist in harmony, and where Japanese-inspired features like shoji screen-like kitchen storage add a layer of cultural depth.
