Mogan Mountain Jun An Li: A Showroom Design that Celebrates Harmony with Nature

Integrating Nature and Luxury in Contemporary Residential Design

In contemporary residential design, more and more attention has been paid to the personal experience of the occupants, but in this Jun An Li project located in Mogan Mountain, designer Zhijun Zhong draws attention to the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature. Following the design principle of returning to nature and dwelling with the concept of "less is more," the project seeks simplicity and tranquility, where luxury is defined by a sense of ease and quiet.

In Mogan Mountain, nature takes center stage. From architecture to interior design, the main idea is to be close to nature and experience its beauty. The interior design aims to create an indoor living environment that is comparable to the magnificence of the landscape, allowing residents to feel the authenticity of nature from within the comfort of their homes. In this design, the residents become the protagonists, immersed in the breathtaking scenery.

The design features a warm log stairwell, with a sculpture resembling a drop of water falling from the ceiling into a black disc below. The suspended black water droplets are made from irregular black wooden blocks, repurposed from discarded wood found on the construction site. This environmentally friendly approach advocates for a sustainable lifestyle.

The dining room lighting showcases lampshades made of Barrisol, a material known for its good light transmittance, versatility in shape, and strong plasticity. These unique features contribute to the overall aesthetic of the design, enhancing the ambiance of the space.

The Jun An Li project spans two floors and covers an area of 150 square meters. Its design tags include resort, showroom, interior, design, Bauhaus, house, and villa. Zhijun Zhong, the mastermind behind this project, successfully creates an environment where residents feel seamlessly integrated with the nature of Mogan Mountain.

Completed in May 2018, the Jun An Li project is located in the Jun An Li Resort, Mogan Mountain, Huzhou City, Zhejiang, China. The design process involved extensive research into the local culture and materials, with a focus on fully integrating the design into nature and leaving no trace behind. By utilizing natural forms and materials, the villa blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape.

The main challenge faced during the design process was finding a way to integrate art into the concept, seamlessly merging the indoor and outdoor environments while minimizing the impact on the natural scenery. The solution involved using modern design language to create a relaxed and artistic atmosphere within the interior, allowing the natural environment to flow in through skylights and windows. The natural materials used in the villa are carefully selected to ensure it remains "concealed" within the landscape.

The Jun An Li project embodies the design statement "less is more." The predominantly black and white color scheme, consisting of white plaster walls, marble floors, and painted stainless steel panel bands, creates an abstract painting in a tranquil atmosphere. The strategic placement of wooden furniture pieces enhances the intimate comfort, with the interior beauty showcased against the backdrop of nature, invited in through the windows and skylights. The design philosophy behind this project is to break free from the physical isolation of the mountain and embrace a lifestyle that seamlessly blends urban living with the serenity of nature.

The Jun An Li project was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
