Cine Grand Century: An Underwater Grotto for Movie Lovers

Transforming Light and Shadow into a Cinematic Experience

Underwater Light and Shallow is the main concept of this project. The main ingredient of a movie is light and shallow, and this design presents it in an unusual way - underwater. Cine Grand Century is a space that transforms light, shadow, and the movement of water into a mesmerizing cinematic experience.

The design of Cine Grand Century, created by designer Sara Wing Che Lee, takes inspiration from the underwater world. The cinema foyer, located on levels 4 and 2, welcomes visitors with a supernatural and relaxing atmosphere. As visitors enter through the escalator, they are transported into a deep water world. The rose-colored metal mesh curtain acts as a partition for the multi-function area, while the polish smoothly wall with the LED poster box adds a touch of modernity. The pebble-shaped seating around the waiting area creates a unique and comfortable space for moviegoers.

The highlight of Cine Grand Century is the underwater grotto. This unique dynamic space is where divers explore and movie visitors prepare themselves for journeys manipulated by light, shadow, and time. The box office, located on level four, is a grand white grotto with striped patterns and different reflections of light. The mosaic floor and sculptural curvy ceiling with water ripple elements guide visitors further into the grotto. A black brick wall and ripple mirror create a captivating play of colors, reforming and refracting the light. It is here that the story of light and shadow begins.

The IMAX theater at Cine Grand Century is another remarkable feature. As visitors enter the theater, they are greeted by a long corridor made of chrome metal, resembling a sponge tunnel. The blue mirror ceiling enhances the volume of height, creating a sense of awe and anticipation for the immersive movie experience that awaits.

Cine Grand Century, with its underwater grotto and IMAX theater, offers a truly unique and captivating cinematic experience. The design, awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2015, showcases the integration of well-designed, practical, and innovative elements that meet professional and industrial requirements. It is a testament to the power of design in creating fulfilling and positive experiences for movie lovers around the world.
