Verge32: A Modern Tropical Resort-Inspired Semi-Detached House

Bringing the Tranquil Ambiance of a Vacation to Everyday Living

Tranquil, relaxing, and spacious. These are among the qualities that come to mind when one speaks of a recreational vacation. Wouldn't it be great if one is able to translate that resort-like atmosphere into a place to go home to everyday. This is exactly what Verge32 is attempting to achieve.

Verge32, a triple-storey semi-detached house, is a housing development nestled on top of a hill, surrounded by lush greenery. The design concept behind Verge32 is to recreate the experience of a modern tropical resort, bringing the tranquility and serenity of a vacation to everyday living.

The strength of Verge32 lies in its fundamentally tropical concept, achieved without excessive ornamentation. The neutral color scheme, rich textures, and modern timber furniture create a sumptuously simple yet luxurious ambiance. The extensive use of natural materials, such as stones, marble, and timber, further enhances the feeling of being connected to nature even indoors.

To achieve the modern tropical mood, the designers at Metrics Global Sdn. Bhd. focused on keeping the color scheme, textures, materials, and furniture natural, relaxing, and effortlessly simple. The use of natural wood plays a crucial role in creating the desired ambiance.

The interior space of the semi-detached house spans an impressive 3,267 square feet, providing ample room for residents to enjoy the resort-like atmosphere. The design team, led by Ji Haw and Wei Theng, carefully considered every detail to ensure a seamless integration of the tropical concept into the living space.

Guests entering Verge32 are greeted by a palatial metal art piece depicting tropical leaf motifs, setting the tone for the entire experience. The dining space is adorned with a majestically long rug, with a Raintree slab dining table resting above it. The feature wall, with its organic form and leafy motifs, immerses guests in the feeling of dining in the woods.

The master bedroom is divided into two halves - a chamber and a study room - separated by full-height folding Louvre panels. A unique study shelf creatively displays a natural stone wall at the back, adding to the overall natural and serene atmosphere.

The Verge32 project was realized between November 2015 and January 2016, with extensive research and experimentation conducted to achieve the desired modern tropical look. The design team referred to various precedent studies, both local and international, and experimented with different types of timber and varnish to perfect the resort-like ambiance.

One of the main challenges faced by the designers was to break away from the traditional notion of a tropical design, often associated with intricate ornamentation and excessive use of timber. The goal was to create a modern tropical concept that exudes relaxation without unnecessary details, making it applicable to a contemporary home.

Verge32, with its modern tropical resort-inspired design, has garnered recognition in the design community. In 2016, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.

With Verge32, Metrics Global Sdn. Bhd. has successfully brought the tranquility and serenity of a vacation to everyday living. This modern tropical semi-detached house is a testament to the power of design in creating a harmonious and relaxing living space.
