Placidity in Modern: A Unique Blend of Industrial and Classic Design

Chien-Ming Lai's Award-Winning Interior Design for a Business Office in Hsichu City

Chien-Ming Lai's inspiration for this design came from the fast-growing technology industry in Hsichu City, known for its focus on science and engineering. The primary business of laser mask writing system in Heidelberg Instruments Service sparked the idea of incorporating a circuit diagram into the interior design plan for the business office.

The unique properties of this design lie in its successful fusion of contrasting elements. The contemporary industrialized style is showcased through the use of open space, dark walls and carpets, and exposed ceilings, pipelines, and beam columns. On the other hand, the characteristic of tenderness is brought out by integrating wooden and textile furniture, metals and mirrors, and dim yellow light.

The entrance space sets the tone for the entire office. A screen made of grey glass, printed with a circuit diagram, and opaque glass creates an atmosphere of mystery and reality. This innovative use of materials and design elements makes the space stand out.

The project, completed in 2016 in Taiwan, faced the challenge of combining opposite factors such as cold and warm, modern and classic. However, Chien-Ming Lai's creative approach and technical expertise allowed him to overcome these challenges and create a distinguishing office space.
