The Jen Teh library, conceived by designer Jing Wei Lin, is an architectural marvel that transcends the conventional concept of a library. It is a four-story edifice where each level serves a distinct purpose, harmoniously blending the love for books with cutting-edge design. The first floor reimagines the library as an interactive zone, revolutionizing the way patrons engage with literature. The second floor offers a self-study and discussion area, catering to diverse learning preferences with a variety of seating options. The third floor's thematic classrooms are tailored for specialized medical education, while the fourth floor boasts an international conference hall and a state-of-the-art multimedia audio-visual room, suitable for large events and presentations.
What sets Jen Teh apart is its commitment to flexibility and space optimization. The first floor features a unique stepped reading area that doubles as a venue for interactive talks. The second-floor study spaces are adaptable, with long and bar-type desks to suit individual habits. The third floor's classrooms are equipped to simulate real-life medical scenarios, enhancing the educational experience. The fourth floor's conference and audio-visual facilities are equipped with multifunctional capabilities, ensuring that the space can cater to a wide range of events.
The design's strength lies in its ability to transform. Reading chairs on the first floor, under the glow of track lights, can be rearranged into various activity booths. The stairway reading area becomes a hub for small-scale interactive speeches, and the second-floor screen doubles as an art exhibition space. The fourth floor's conference and multimedia rooms are designed to host both large-scale speeches and intimate meetings, showcasing the design's versatility.
Jing Wei Lin's approach to the Jen Teh library emphasizes a warm and scholarly ambiance, beginning with the wooden entrance that welcomes visitors into a world of knowledge. The dynamic screen on the side wall serves as a beacon of information, displaying school activities and fostering a modern, humanistic image. The open bookcases and sky bookshelves maximize book visibility, inviting exploration and discovery. The open stepped reading area and small speech interaction zones foster a sense of community and closeness among users.
The project, which commenced in April 2022 and concluded in November 2022 in Taiwan, is a testament to Jing Wei Lin's dedication to creating a space that is not only functional but also vibrant and full of life. The library's design addresses the challenges of modern-day 3C addiction by providing a space that encourages reading and learning in a relaxed and diverse environment. The materials used in the Jen Teh library, such as wood veneer and environmentally friendly paints, reflect a commitment to sustainability.
Jen Teh's innovative design has earned Jing Wei Lin the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for 2024. This accolade is a recognition of the project's exceptional design, which skillfully integrates art, science, design, and technology to enhance the quality of life and contribute to a better world. The Jen Teh library is not just a place for books; it is a dynamic space that redefines the library experience for the modern age.
