Wan Yu Lo's Light Corridor in Grayness stands as a testament to the transformative power of interior design. The project, which began in June 2022 and concluded in October of the same year, took place in New Taipei City. The challenge was to convert a T-shaped layout into an H-shaped one, addressing the original design's fragmented circulation and uneven walls. This strategic reconfiguration not only optimized the spatial flow but also incorporated Feng Shui concepts, marrying modern design with traditional wisdom.
The unique H-shaped layout is a game-changer, ensuring a seamless transition between public and private zones within the residence. By shifting the corridor to the window side, natural light floods the space, creating an inviting and bright atmosphere. The addition of an arc-shaped curve softens the transition between spaces, enhancing the sense of continuity and providing a subtle demarcation of territories.
Lo's design employs advanced spatial calculations, ensuring that every inch of the residence is utilized to its full potential. The vertical dimension respects the integrity of the space by aligning partitions with existing beams, while the horizontal layout strategically places living areas to foster smooth circulation. The relocation of the corridor not only improves the flow but also forms a thermal insulation layer around the residence, contributing to energy efficiency.
Interactivity and versatility are at the heart of the Light Corridor in Grayness. The design features a flexible foyer that can be adapted for different occasions, establishing a ceremonial welcome while maintaining an open connection to the dining area. The use of sliding glass doors allows for the space to be easily reconfigured, catering to the dynamic needs of the residents.
Lo's design philosophy extends beyond aesthetics, incorporating practical solutions to urban living. The project embraces the challenges posed by climate change, aiming to create a living space that is both sustainable and in harmony with the environment. The mirrored ceiling in the corridor ingenously reflects sunlight, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow reminiscent of ink paintings, with water elements symbolizing the flow of spirituality throughout the home.
The Light Corridor in Grayness by Wan Yu Lo, a Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award winner in 2024, exemplifies the pinnacle of interior design innovation. It showcases a harmonious blend of form and function, where the principles of Feng Shui meet modern living needs. Temple of Light Design Studio, the intellectual property holder, has crafted a space that is not only visually stunning but also deeply rooted in cultural wisdom and environmental consciousness.
