In the realm of spirits, the packaging is as vital as the elixir it holds. Peter Morvai, in collaboration with Sevenhills Distillery, has unveiled a vodka that is not only distinct in its grape derivation but also in its presentation. The design's cornerstone is the interplay of simplicity and complexity, where clean typography meets the intricate lens effect of the bottle. The front label's minimalist approach allows the vodka's clarity to shine through, while the screened bottle, adorned with a grape leaf illustration, adds depth and a contemporary edge.
The Furmint Vodka is a limited production, with only 800-1000 bottles released annually, positioning it as a coveted artisan product. This exclusivity is mirrored in the design, which required a meticulous offset printing process for the label and a precise screenprinting technique for the bottle. Standing at 340 mm tall and 80 mm wide, the bottle's stature is as impressive as its contents.
Graphasel Design Studio, with art directors László Ördögh and Dávid Drozsnyik, alongside graphic designer Péter Morvai, have collectively pushed the boundaries of packaging design. The vodka's interactive nature comes to life as one peers through the liquid, with the screened illustration gaining a dynamic dimension. This interactivity not only enhances the user experience but also serves as a nod to the brand's innovative spirit.
Conceived and completed in Budapest by the end of 2022, the Furmint Vodka project is a testament to the power of research and creative resilience. The design team faced the challenge of surpassing their previous success with the Tokaj Gin packaging. Numerous iterations of the grape leaf illustration were explored to achieve a balance where the design complements rather than overshadows the vodka's essence.
Recognition of this exceptional design came with the Silver A' Design Award in 2024, a testament to the team's professional excellence and innovative prowess. The award celebrates designs that evoke amazement and wonder, and Furmint Vodka's packaging does just that. It stands as a beacon of creativity, craftsmanship, and the harmonious fusion of art and function in the world of beverage design.
With images captured by Bence Boldogh, the visual narrative of Furmint Vodka is complete, offering a sensory journey that begins with the eyes and promises to delight the palate. This design achievement not only elevates the brand but also sets a new benchmark in the beverage industry for others to aspire to.
