Hyatt Centric Gaoxin Xi'an: A Mural That Narrates History

Jansword Zhu's Artistic Vision Transforms Hotel Walls into Historical Tapestry

At the Hyatt Centric Gaoxin Xi'an, a monumental mural by Jansword Zhu becomes a canvas that intertwines the past with the present, inviting guests on a journey through time.

The Hyatt Centric Gaoxin Xi'an's walls are adorned with a breathtaking mural that stretches an impressive 61 meters in length and stands 5 meters tall. This masterpiece, titled "The Whisper of Silk and The Song of Horses," is not just a decorative element but a narrative of Xi'an's rich history, viewed through the prism of modern art. The mural is a testament to the city's significance as the starting point of the Silk Road and its legacy as the capital of three ancient dynasties.

Artist Jansword Zhu, renowned for his ability to blend historical motifs with contemporary aesthetics, has created a visual symphony that captures the essence of Xi'an's storied past. The mural's first section, an abstract representation of a dragon's head, is inspired by the power and innovation symbolized by an engine. This imagery is a nod to the city's enduring spirit of progress and transformation.

Further along the mural, Zhu introduces three dynamic horses, each one echoing the terracotta army horse, jade horse, and horse stone carving found in Xi'an. These figures are emblematic of the Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties, which once flourished in this ancient city. Zhu's use of circular strokes within the artwork pays homage to the cursive script of Zhang Xu, a calligraphy master from the Tang dynasty, bridging the gap between traditional art forms and contemporary expression.

The mural's grand scale and intricate details are not only a feast for the eyes but also a source of contemplation for visitors. It serves as a focal point within the architectural space designed by Kengo Kuma, enhancing the hotel's commitment to exploration and discovery. As guests traverse the length of the mural, they embark on a visual journey that echoes the travels once undertaken along the Silk Road.

The Golden A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design for 2024 is a testament to the mural's exceptional design and its impact on the world of art, design, and architecture. Zhu's creation stands as a cultural landmark within the Hyatt Centric Gaoxin Xi'an, offering a unique experience that merges hospitality with historical enlightenment.

As the mural "The Whisper of Silk and The Song of Horses" garners accolades and admiration, it continues to serve as a bridge between the ancient and the modern, inviting guests to explore the depths of Xi'an's heritage within the walls of a contemporary hotel setting.
