Phoenix-Inspired Living: Saiwen Liu's Award-Winning Design

Yangguang City No.9: A Harmony of Aesthetics and Function

Introducing Yangguang City No.9, a residential house project by Saiwen Liu that merges mythological inspiration with practical innovation, earning the prestigious Silver A' Design Award.

At the heart of Saiwen Liu's design philosophy lies a commitment to blending functional space management with the elegance of aesthetic theory. Yangguang City No.9, a residential house project, stands as a testament to this approach. Drawing inspiration from the mythical FengHuang, or phoenix, the living room design emulates the grace of phoenix tail feathers, creating a sense of movement and layering within the space. The intricate wall shapes and embedded light strips evoke the image of a phoenix in dance, bringing a dynamic and harmonious atmosphere to the home.

The project's unique properties are not just in its visual appeal but also in its intelligent spatial arrangement. The design ensures an efficient flow of movement throughout the house, a feature particularly significant given the modest single-floor area of 93㎡. The challenge of the limited space was met with creativity, using tender curves and linear lighting to craft an expansive feel, thus enhancing the living experience within a compact environment.

Technologically, the project stands out for its sustainable material choices. Utilizing natural-shell terrazzo and common red bricks, the design achieves a balance between cost-effectiveness and environmental responsibility. The red bricks, in particular, offer humidity control, an essential feature for the dry climate of Xi'an, where the house is located. Additionally, the project includes unique decorative elements such as side tables crafted from a saw blade and off-cut wood, further emphasizing the design's commitment to innovation and resourcefulness.

The design's realization was not only a triumph of aesthetics but also a win for sustainability. By incorporating natural shell terrazzo, Saiwen Liu's project addresses the pressing issue of marine pollution caused by discarded shells. The design's use of this material not only adds value to the recycling of waste shells but also serves as a model for sustainable practices in the industry.

Yangguang City No.9's journey began in June 2021 and reached completion two years later, marking a significant milestone in Saiwen Liu's career. The project's success was recognized with a Silver A' Design Award, a distinction that celebrates the highest levels of creativity and professional excellence in interior space, retail, and exhibition design. This accolade is a testament to the project's innovation, technical prowess, and the positive impact it brings to the field of design.

Photographs capturing the essence of Yangguang City No.9 were taken by Zhong Yonggang from Shenyang Tupai Advertising Media Co., LTD, ensuring the visual narrative of the project is communicated with equal sophistication. As the intellectual property rights are held by Saiwen Liu, the design's integrity and originality are preserved, allowing it to serve as an inspiration for future endeavors in the realm of residential design.
