Long Xi: A Fusion of Bronze Heritage and Modern Design

Chushan Design's Incense Packaging Wins Silver A' Award

Chushan Design's Long Xi incense stick packaging reimagines ancient Eastern culture for the modern era, earning a Silver in the A' Packaging Design Award 2024.

The Long Xi series stands out as a cultural artifact reborn through packaging. Chushan Design has masterfully combined the ancient allure of Eastern bronze art with contemporary design elements. This incense holder packaging is not just a container but a bridge connecting users to a ritualistic experience rooted in history. The innovative use of electroplated aluminum film bags and wooden materials creates a product that is both a nod to the past and a step into the future of design.

What distinguishes Long Xi is its unique visual narrative, crafted through a blend of materials that speak to both tradition and innovation. The wooden box features a sliding structure, eliminating the need for plastic seals and instead using multi-layered stickers. This design choice not only serves a practical function but also pays homage to the historical significance of bronze, enhancing the ceremonial aspect of the product's use.

The realization of the Long Xi design required advanced technology to replicate ancient bronze patterns with precision. Techniques such as gold stamping and embossing were employed to create a tactile experience that echoes the craftsmanship of 2400-year-old artifacts. The packaging's meticulous attention to detail ensures that the cultural essence of the product is communicated through both its visual and physical presence.

Chushan Design's approach to the Long Xi packaging is a testament to the power of thoughtful design in creating a product that is both functional and emotionally resonant. The internal structure of the wooden box, with its curved sliding mechanism and sponge-padded cardboard, ensures product safety while also providing a platform for brand storytelling. The accessory assembly box at the bottom, complete with handles, adds another layer of user-friendliness to the design.

The Long Xi project, completed over ten months in Shenzhen, is a successful exploration of how to harmonize traditional motifs with modern aesthetics. The design team, including Yin Peng, Li Linlin, and Menghao Zeng, faced the challenge of refreshing traditional craft packaging without losing its essence. Their solution was to create a design that respects the past while embracing the present, offering a contemporary take on the rich narrative of bronze culture.

With its Silver A' Design Award, Long Xi by Chushan Design has been recognized for its excellence in blending heritage with modernity. This incense stick packaging is not just a product but a statement of cultural identity, innovation, and the enduring power of design to connect us to our collective history.
